The course consists of presentations and workshops that allow for learning and exchange of experiences. Challenges in the compilation of foreign trade data in emerging areas will be discussed and specific topics, such as the estimation of informal cross-border activities and digitization, will be highlighted. The course will also examine issues and challenges arising as a result of the evolving global economy and discuss their impact on the work of compiling foreign trade data. The exercises that will be developed in the workshops are aimed at integrating the knowledge acquired in the course to its practical application.   

Objective

Provide an in-depth understanding of the concepts, data sources and compilation techniques of statistics of international trade in goods and services, as well as their application to complex methodological problems. It is expected that at the end of the course participants will be able to: i) Apply the knowledge acquired to address complex methodological and compilation problems of foreign trade statistics and ii) Identify possible data sources and compilation techniques to improve the coverage of the goods and services account of the balance of payments and foreign transactions produced by new digital services.

Aimed at

Officials from central banks and institutes responsible for compiling external sector statistics, especially the balance of payments goods and services accounts, and who are familiar with the methodology of the Balance of Payments Statistics Manual and the International Investment Position, Sixth Edition (BPM6).
